Electricity
Power generation
Our clients cover all areas of the sector from fossil fuel power stations to hydro and wind turbine generators and now bio-mass, bio-fuels and combined heat and power (CHP).
Interserve supports a vast array of international, national and local power generators including Barking Power, British Energy, Baglan Generation, E.On UK, SembCorp Utilities, Magnox Electric and International Power.
We have the unique ability in this market to self-perform the majority of the services we offer with our own labour, which means we can deliver cost-effective, safe and sustainable maintenance and project support without compromise on our exacting standards.
Power transmission and distribution
Since the inception of the National Grid, Interserve has worked tirelessly in support of the organisations on which we all rely upon for the power used daily for our homes and businesses. With experience stretching back over 90 years we can offer a range of services aimed to meet the exacting standards of customers in the electricity supply industry. We cover high-voltage (HV) transmission (up to 400kV) and distribution lines, underground cabling (132kV and below), sub station markets (400kV and below), HV tower refurbishment (painting, hardware, etc.), low-voltage (LV) electrical installation and periodic testing and certification.
Interserve is embedded in many of the recognised national frameworks established to ensure the life-cycle maintenance and continuity in supply of the nation’s power network. We are aligned to the following:
- Direct with Distribution Network Operators (DNO)
- Direct with the National Grid for emergency repair work
- Direct with Scottish grid owners SPPS and SSE
- As a tier 2 supplier to the Electrical Alliance members
We also offer a comprehensive range of building services and business continuity solutions to support organisations with their mechanical and electrical work, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, portable appliance testing (PAT) and general electrical maintenance requirements.

An example: GDF Storage Limited (a subsidiary of GDF Suez) awarded us a multi-million-pound contract to provide the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation services required for the first phase of construction at the company’s new underground gas storage facility in Stublach, Cheshire. Interserve is delivering these key packages for the mining compound consisting of the degassing tank area, pump house and numerous associated well heads, all of which are connected to underground supply pipework. Our primary mechanical support facility, based at Ellesmere Port, will be responsible for delivering all fabricated parts consisting of 4.6km of complex, high-integrity pipework, 60 tonnes of access steel work and all associated pipework supports.
Telecoms
We can provide an extensive consultancy service covering anything from new capital development to the upgrade and refurbishment of highly technical facilities including data centres, telecommunications, trading floors, control centres and computer rooms.
We have also undertaken a nationwide turnkey programme for the construction and installation of telecoms hubs as well as building and refurbishing offices for telecoms clients.
Waste
We offer bespoke solutions to the municipal waste market via our team of dedicated specialists. Drawing on many years’ knowledge we offer a comprehensive package that includes investment, design and construction through to management of asset operation and maintenance over the long term.
Our previous experience includes:
- Design and construction of a major energy-from-waste facility in Birmingham, a 26,000 sq m building comprising a receiving hall, refuse bunker, main boiler house, transformer facility, control rooms and ancillary facilities.
- Civil engineering and building works at a materials recycling facility for Exeter City Council
- Design and construction of infrastructure on a civil amenity site at Portishead, Avon.
- Design and construction of the Charlton Lane Waste Transfer Station, a new refuse transfer facility for Surrey Waste Management
