The One Show, BBC

The £200m, four-year BBC framework went live in July 2006 and covers the BBC’s UK portfolio of some 230 properties. Interserve is one of three framework contractors chosen to deliver construction projects and we have already secured over £25m of projects since the framework began.

These include the fit-out works at the BBC's Scottish HQ, video server projects in Bristol and Southampton in addition to works at Dumbarton, Bristol, Nottingham, Swindon and Plymouth.

At the Scottish HQ, we undertook the manufacture, supply and installation of a reception desk, tea BBC Radio 1points, restaurant servery and catering equipment, bespoke vanity/dressing tables, printer hubs and ‘touch-down’ desks. Our expertise in working in customer occupied spaces and operational environments enabled a seamless installation of bespoke joinery items with minimal disruption to surrounding areas. We took the architect’s concept ideas and, through careful discussion, were able to expand the innovative design. Manufacture and installation was all undertaken within an eight-week period.

Early contractor involvement under the open book New Engineering Contract (NEC) has supported the delivery of two business-critical data centres involving complex logistics and significant co-ordination issues in a short time period.

Interserve also completed the "One Show" studio earlier in 2007 at White City, under extremely tight timescales, enabling the show to broadcast in July as planned.

This work has been followed with the award of a further two floors of back offices for the "Top Gear" production team and "Top Gear Magazine".

We have staff permanently situated at Television Centre in London working on a variety of projects, often in live operational environments, working out of hours and in sensitive broadcast areas. An early project here included the salon set for the "Celebrity Scissorhands" show for Children in Need.

We are currently working on the £2m relocation of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to a new multimedia centre. Interserve has provided a new chilled water cooling system at BBC Yalding House, home to BBC radio stations Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and a London site for the BBC Asian Network.

Tony Wood, Operations Manager, BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra said: "Interserve was quick to get to grips with what I deemed as high-risk and sensitive. We worked together to ensure that any risks were managed, right down to the smallest detail, to guarantee broadcast was not affected by the project work. The scale of this task shouldn't be underestimated. The approach by Interserve to the hurdles we encountered at times in maintaining business continuity, coupled with their commitment not to trouble our core business, ensured that although complex and drawn out, the installation was as unobtrusive as possible."
