In February 2008, Her Majesty’s Courts Service (HMCS) renewed its three-year cleaning contract with Interserve to provide a range of cleaning and associated services for the whole of the Service’s London region.

The renewal of the contract doubled Interserve’s existing 40-site remit to cover all Crown Courts, Combined Court Centres, County Courts, Magistrates Courts and Tribunal Buildings within Metropolitan London.

Formerly known as the Greater London Magistrate’s Courts Authority (GLMCA), HMCS was formed following the merger of the outer and inner London law courts in 2001. In a bid to streamline operations, the Authority took the decision to outsource cleaning services and divided the courts into five separate regions, in effect creating five contracts - all awarded to Interserve.

Services

Interserve’s 500-strong team self-delivers a range of services including:

  • Office cleaning
  • Day janitors
  • Window cleaning
  • Floor cleaning
  • Periodical deep cleans
  • Specialist cleaning of cells and custodial / detention areas

Clark Adam, Contracts Manager for Her Majesty’s Courts Service commenting on the selection process: “Interserve had already worked with the inner London courts for some years, and was therefore ideally placed to propose a professional package that was both realistic and cost effective. Their attention to detail, proven credentials and emphasis on teamwork convinced us that they were the right people for the role. We had not hesitation in awarding them all five segments of the contract.”

David Wiggins of HMCS added: “We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with Interserve. We have a lot of confidence in their capabilities and the company’s performance to date has been well above standard. Regular meetings and an excellent day to day relationship with the courts have ensured a quick response to whatever we ask.”
