Facts and figures

  • Client: Leeds City Council
  • Value: £1.15 million

Interserve's involvement in the scheme included the carriageway widening of Ring Road Beeston Park from south of Parkwood Road to the A653 Dewsbury Road to enable the introduction of a northbound 24-hour bus lane and dedicated left turn lane onto the A653 Dewsbury Road.

The work comprises:

  • Alterations to the existing traffic signals
  • Introduction of new traffic signals and pedestrian crossing facilities
  • Creation of a new 24-hour bus lane and signalised bus gate facilities
  • Creation of a dedicated left turn lane on Ring Road Beeston Park
  • Implementation of shared use footway / cycleway facilities
  • All bus stops within the scheme upgraded in line with accessibility standards
  • Ground stabilisation works
  • Construction of reused stone boundary walls
  • Construction of a brick retaining wall on the west side of Ring Road Beeston Park

Achievements

  • Approximately 80 tonnes of stone masonry were reclaimed for reuse within the works along with 30 metres of stone coping. This was achieved with the use of block grabs to avoid manual handling.
  • Two lead painted steel parapets weighing approximately three tonnes each were removed without the need to burn the lead paint by cracking the rivets and dismantling the parapets. This avoided the potential for lead fumes.
  • Planned to reclaim approximately 220m of York Kerbstones for reuse within the works
