New patient treatment centre
Interserve was appointed by The Christie through ProCure21 to design and build a new £35 million patient treatment centre at its main site in south Manchester.
The Christie is already one of the largest cancer centres in Europe and an international leader in research. The development will significantly increase the capacity to deliver chemotherapy treatment, expand early phase clinical trials and provide a new private patient unit.
Interserve has delivered the project ahead of programme and on budget, successfully achieving the Trust's objectives for the scheme. The new development includes; 70 beds, 65 treatment chairs, 19 consulting suites, a pharmacy, a blood room, a research sample processing laboratory and a state of the art pod system for transporting items around The Christie.
Achievements
Directly adjacent to the main hospital building, on a tight site and opposite residential buildings, Interserve's challenge has been to maintain operational and clinical pathways, with minimal disruption to both the hospital and the surrounding community.
Working closely with all stakeholders to satisfy their requirements at each stage of the process has been essential to the successful delivery of the project.
- Videos were used to demonstrate the expected levels of noise and dust and how they would be controlled
- Community drop in sessions arranged for local residents communicated our methodology, traffic management and construction traffic parking arrangements, statutory nuisance, site security, road side image and location of site accommodation
The outcome has been to provide an iconic building, totally tailored to The Christie's future clinical needs, that will make the patient experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. It was completed ahead of schedule, whilst incorporating additional work associated with the private patient unit.
